The Senior Project Engineer will be responsible for leading the design, execution, and delivery of substation projects, focusing on either Physical Design or Protection & Control (P&C) systems. This role is critical in ensuring technical excellence, maintaining client satisfaction, and fostering a culture of collaboration within the project teams. Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership
- Oversee and manage all phases of substation design projects, ensuring technical quality and adherence to client specifications.
- Act as the technical lead for substation design, providing guidance on physical layout, protection schemes, and system integration.
- Develop and implement project execution plans, budgets, and schedules, maintaining project milestones and profitability.
- Identify and mitigate project risks, resolving technical and operational challenges.
Client Engagement
- Serve as the primary liaison between the company and clients, building strong, trust-based relationships.
- Conduct regular client meetings to present project updates, address concerns, and ensure satisfaction with deliverables.
- Support business development efforts, including preparing proposals, participating in interviews, and contributing to client presentations.
Team Management
- Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of engineers and designers, fostering professional development and knowledge sharing.
- Assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide feedback to ensure the team operates at peak efficiency.
- Promote collaboration across regional offices and international teams to ensure seamless project delivery.
Technical Expertise
- Review and approve detailed substation designs, including physical layouts, single-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, and associated calculations.
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, such as IEEE, ANSI, and IEC, as well as client-specific requirements.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies, tools, and practices to enhance project outcomes.
International Collaboration
- Coordinate with engineering teams across North and South America to manage cross-border projects effectively.
- Understand regional power system requirements and adapt solutions to meet diverse regulatory and technical standards.
Qualifications
Required Experience
- A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in substation design, focusing on either Physical Design or Protection & Control (P&C) systems.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and deliver complex engineering projects on time and within budget.
- Proficiency with industry-standard software tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, ETAP, or Aspen.
- Leadership Skills
- Proven success in leading and mentoring engineering teams, fostering collaboration, and ensuring high-performance delivery.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with experience managing client relationships and leading meetings.
- Client-Facing Abilities
- Adept at understanding client needs, translating them into actionable plans, and delivering exceptional results.
- Experience supporting business development activities, including contributing to proposals and client presentations.
Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with North and South American power systems, including local regulations, codes, and standards.
- Multilingual skills (Spanish or Portuguese) are a plus but not required.
Education and Certification
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering (or a related field).
- PE license or ability to obtain licensure within six months is strongly preferred.
