W Talent is delighted to be working with a well-established and growing engineering and manufacturing organisation based in North Leeds, who are seeking an experienced QHSE Manager to join their Operations leadership team.
The Role
This is a senior role responsible for managing, developing and driving Quality, Health & Safety and Environmental (QHSE) strategy and compliance across factory operations, offices and third-party sites. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting business growth while ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality and environmental performance are maintained.
Reporting into the Operations Director and forming part of the Operations Management Team, the QHSE Manager will take full responsibility for establishing, implementing, maintaining and improving the company's integrated QHSE systems. A key initial objective will be leading the transition and implementation of an Integrated Management System (IMS) compliant with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 within six months of an agreed plan.
Key Responsibilities
The role requires a proactive and influential leader who can support managers and employees across the business, ensuring statutory compliance, operational excellence and a strong safety-first culture.
- Lead, manage and develop the QHSE function across factory, office and third-party site operations.
- Provide clear guidance, training and advice to managers and employees on all QHSE matters.
- Lead the transition and implementation of an Integrated Management System compliant with ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001.
- Maintain management system certifications and ensure ongoing compliance.
- Manage supplier quality requirements to ensure products meet national and international standards.
- Oversee risk assessments, Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) and hazard identification processes.
- Implement and manage internal and supplier audits, including QA and SQA processes.
- Lead accident and near-miss investigations, ensuring robust root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Manage PPE systems, H&S inductions and training records.
- Chair and contribute to Health & Safety Committee meetings, ensuring actions are delivered on time.
- Monitor KPIs and provide regular performance reports to senior management.
- Liaise with insurers, consultants, solicitors and external stakeholders as required.
- Keep up to date with relevant QHSE legislation and communicate changes across the business.
Key Requirements
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a QHSE Manager role within a manufacturing environment.
- Lead Auditor qualified (essential).
- NEBOSH Certificate (essential), Diploma desirable.
- Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001.
- Experience managing multi-site health and safety, including third-party locations.
- Experience leading audits, investigations and hazard identification processes.
- Knowledge of PPAP, Quality Plans, FAIRs and 8D investigations.
- Strong Excel skills and confident managing performance data and KPIs.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills with the ability to challenge and drive standards.
- Proactive, pragmatic and resilient, with a safety-first mindset.
- Willing and able to travel to other sites as required.
Salary & Benefits
A competitive salary £45,000 to £55,000 and benefits package is available, reflective of experience and responsibility.
