W Talent is seeking an experienced Principal Design Engineer to lead and deliver detailed design for high-voltage substations. This position requires an individual with substantial expertise in substation design (either physical design or P&Cs), capable of handling complex projects from conceptual design through construction support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute comprehensive physical designs for high-voltage substations, including crafting single line diagrams, general arrangements, as well as detailing elevations, section views, assembly, and installation specifics.
  • Prepare meticulous bills of materials, bid units, and material counts.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to achieve cohesive and superior design solutions.
  • Undertake site visits to collect essential data and confirm design accuracy against actual conditions.
  • Formulate and write specifications for material procurement and construction; assess and select contractor bids.
  • Inspect shop drawings to verify adherence to design standards.
  • Investigate and integrate equipment and client standards into design projects.
  • Conduct essential calculations for sizing equipment and conductors, and design grounding and lightning protection systems.
  • Estimate engineering fees and offer support during the construction stage.
  • Guide and educate junior engineers and design personnel, promoting professional development and knowledge sharing.
  • Oversee necessary overnight travel for client interactions and on-site assessments as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in either Electrical or Civil engineering
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in substation physical or P&C design.
  • Demonstrated ability to work directly with clients and support marketing proposals.
  • Experience managing design budgets and schedules preferred.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States indefinitely.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
