W Talent is delighted to be working with a well-established engineering and manufacturing organisation, who are seeking an experienced Master Scheduler to support operations across their Derby facility. This is a key role within the Planning function, responsible for leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of production planning and scheduling processes, while actively driving efficiency, coordination, and performance across the business.

The Role

The Master Scheduler is responsible for developing, maintaining, and executing the master production schedule to ensure that customer demand, inventory targets, material availability, and capacity constraints are balanced effectively. This role is a key enabler of operational efficiency, future business success, and cross‑functional alignment across Supply Chain, Operations, Sales, and Finance.

Key Responsibilities

  • To continuously develop and maintain the master production schedule in line with customer expectations, whilst ensuring a level production, keeping manning fluctuations to a minimum week to week.
  • Calculate lead time to availability.
  • Identify the quickest production route and maximise the production schedule.
  • End-to-end production scheduling.
  • Assist with inbound materials planning.
  • Review schedule adherence daily, supporting stakeholders in corrective action planning to achieve the production plan.
  • Create a production schedule once orders are released to the business, and monitor attainment to plan daily, considering constraints.
  • Create forecasts considering future orders so the business can assess capacity constraints and look at manning and material requirements to various scenarios.
  • Create a master schedule that can be used for detailed material/capacity planning as well as financial planning.
  • Actively participate in Sales & Operations Planning, helping to set priorities when demand outstrips capacity. Run rough cut capacity planning monthly; maintain and update capacity data for all critical site resources.
  • To accurately maintain planning data with the ERP system.
  • Conduct "What-if" analysis to evaluate impact of demand changes, supply issues, or capacity constraints, identifying risks to plan adherence with proposals for mitigating actions.

Key Requirements

  • Computer literate e.g. Microsoft applications, Word & Excel.
  • Experience in using an MRP/ERP system for a minimum of 5 years, for the purpose of Production Planning.
  • Interpretation of engineering/technical drawings and information.
  • Demonstrable experience in applying continuous improvement techniques within a supply chain/manufacturing role.


Salary & Benefits

A competitive salary starting between £40,000 and £47,000 plus a good benefits package is on offer. The role is based in Derby. This position offers the opportunity to play a key role in shaping the planning culture and standards within a growing and operationally diverse business.
